About the role
As a Java Lead, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and maintaining scalable enterprise applications and APIs that support critical business functions. You will be a valued member of the technology team and work collaboratively with architects, business analysts, quality engineering teams, database administrators, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Java and related technologies.
Build and support RESTful and SOAP-based APIs, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Develop and optimize database solutions, including SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
Implement and maintain application integrations using Spring, Hibernate, JDBC, and related frameworks.
Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Utilize modern development tools, version control systems, and CI/CD processes to support application development and deployment.
Contribute to application architecture discussions and help drive continuous improvements in software engineering best practices.

What you need to have to be considered
10+ years of strong experience developing applications using Java, J2EE, and object-oriented programming principles.
Hands-on experience building and supporting RESTful and SOAP web services.
Experience working with Spring Framework and Hibernate for enterprise application development.
Strong database development skills, including PL/SQL, query optimization, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and database design.
Experience with JDBC and object-relational mapping technologies.
Proficiency with version control systems such as GitHub and Azure DevOps tools.
Experience using build and dependency management tools such as Maven and ANT.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
These will help you stand out
Experience implementing API security standards such as OAuth and JWT.
Familiarity with API documentation and testing tools including Swagger and Postman.
Experience working with Struts Framework in legacy modernization environments.
Knowledge of Azure-based development and deployment practices.
Experience with modern IDEs such as Eclipse and VS Code.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and project requirements.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $83,250 to $132,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
