Job Summary
This role is for a technical lead with eight to ten years of experience in AS400 platforms focusing on RPG CL System 36 COBOL and iSeries administration within property and casualty insurance. The role involves hybrid work in a day shift model guiding complex policy and claims systems modernization while ensuring high stability and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Drive end to end design and enhancement of AS400 based insurance applications to support policy administration claims handling and billing with high reliability and performance
- Coordinate technical implementation of changes in AS400 RPG CL System 36 and COBOL programs to align with evolving property and casualty product and regulatory needs
- Analyze existing AS400 modules and database structures to identify optimization opportunities that improve response times accuracy and maintainability of core insurance processes
- Develop and refine reusable RPG and CL components that standardize business rules for underwriting rating claims processing and financial reporting across multiple insurance products
- Perform detailed impact analysis for every change in AS400 applications to ensure downstream systems including data warehouses and reporting solutions remain accurate and consistent
- Review code changes prepared by team members in AS400 RPG CL and COBOL to ensure adherence to coding standards secure practices and audit requirements for insurance data
- Plan and execute system integration tests on AS400 environments validating that end to end insurance workflows from quote to policy issuance and claims settlement operate without defects
- Collaborate with business analysts underwriting specialists and claims experts to translate complex insurance requirements into robust AS400 technical solutions that reduce manual effort
- Administer iSeries systems by managing user profiles jobs backups and performance tuning activities to sustain high availability for policy and claims users in a hybrid working model
- Monitor production batch and online processes on AS400 platforms to detect issues proactively and coordinate timely resolution to minimize disruption for insurance operations
- Prepare detailed technical documentation for AS400 programs job flows and configuration settings to support knowledge sharing onboarding and regulatory audits in the insurance domain
- Guide the adoption of secure coding and data handling practices on AS400 ensuring that sensitive policyholder information is protected and aligned with industry security expectations
- Engage in continuous improvement activities by assessing new AS400 tools techniques and automation approaches that can streamline insurance processing and support organizational goals
Qualifications
- Possess eight to ten years of hands on experience working on AS400 platforms with strong expertise in RPG programming for core insurance policy and claims applications
- Demonstrate solid proficiency in AS400 CL scripting and job control to orchestrate complex batch processes that support daily insurance policy updates and financial operations
- Show practical experience with AS400 System 36 environments including migration or coexistence scenarios that help modernize legacy insurance applications without disrupting service
- Bring proven capability in AS400 COBOL development for handling rating engines reporting modules and transactional workloads in property and casualty insurance systems
- Exhibit strong skills in iSeries AS400 administration including user management job scheduling system monitoring and backup strategies tailored to critical insurance workloads
- Display in depth domain understanding of property and casualty insurance including policies endorsements renewals claims and reinsurance processes to ensure accurate technical solutions
- Communicate clearly with cross functional stakeholders including actuaries underwriters claims teams and operations staff to align technical delivery with business objectives
- Adapt effectively to a hybrid work model while maintaining consistent collaboration productivity and support coverage during standard day shift operations
Certifications Required
IBM i or AS400 certification preferred and any insurance focused certification such as AINS or equivalent
