Role Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented GIS Specialist / Maps Tools Subject Matter Expert to support map and geospatial data projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with GIS tools, strong analytical skills, and the ability to investigate data anomalies, identify trends, and provide technical expertise across mapping platforms and workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain deep subject matter expertise across all mapping and GIS tools used within country and language-specific projects.
- Analyze geospatial and database information by running queries to identify anomalies, data quality issues, and emerging trends.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of tool functionality, workflows, and system capabilities.
- Create, maintain, and update FAQ documentation, including examples and clear explanations for common user questions.
- Conduct testing and experimentation across various data scenarios and software environments to evaluate tool performance and functionality.
- Collaborate with Product and QA/Test Engineering teams to design effective test plans and validate feature functionality.
- Contribute to the creation of release notes, newsletters, and other communication materials for tool releases and enhancements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through process optimization and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of professional experience; OR
- Professional GIS training combined with 1+ years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum 1+ years of experience working with GIS tools, geospatial data, or map-based applications.
- Experience querying databases and analyzing large datasets to troubleshoot issues and identify trends.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with ArcGIS or QGIS (required).
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience editing and maintaining map data using ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Strong understanding of geospatial concepts, map environments, and data quality processes.
- Experience working with testing methodologies and validation processes is a plus.
- Ability to analyze complex datasets and communicate findings effectively.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
