Cognizant Consulting is more than Cognizant’s consulting practice. We are a global community of 5,000+ experts dedicated to helping clients reimagine their business. Blending deep industry knowledge with technology advisory capability, we create innovative business solutions for Fortune 500 clients. We are looking for our next colleague to help shape the future of business. Could it be you?
About the role
As an AWS Technical Architect, you will make an impact by owning the end-to-end architecture for the NCDS AWS platform and setting the technical direction for secure, scalable and well-governed cloud solutions. You will be a valued member of the NCDS team, working collaboratively with the Cognizant Engagement Lead, delivery teams, senior client stakeholders and enterprise architecture colleagues.
In this role, you will
- Own the end-to-end AWS solution architecture for the NCDS platform, defining target-state architecture, reference patterns and adoption standards.
- Set direction for platform-scale infrastructure across services including VPC, IAM, S3, Glue, Kinesis, EC2, Lambda and RDS, and establish infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Architect ingestion, processing and integration pipelines that connect NCDS with adjacent AWS services and modern data platforms, while resolving complex cross-team architectural risks and dependencies.
- Define and embed governance, security, data protection and architecture assurance controls; chair Technical Design Authority reviews and lead designs through formal stakeholder approval.
- Act as the senior technical authority for AWS architecture decisions, communicate complex strategy clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, and mentor architects and engineers.
Work model
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position based in London, with a combination of remote working and attendance at a Cognizant or client location as required. Regardless of your working arrangement, we are here to support a healthy work-life balance through our wellbeing programmes.
What you must have to be considered
- At least eight years of experience in solution or technical architecture roles, including significant experience architecting AWS platforms.
- Deep, demonstrable expertise across core AWS services, including EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Glue, Kinesis, Lambda and RDS.
- Proven experience defining infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform or CloudFormation at programme scale, together with strong knowledge of cloud governance, security and data protection controls.
- A strong track record of integrating AWS architectures with modern data platforms such as Databricks Lakehouse or Delta Lake, and resolving complex cross-team architecture issues.
- Experience chairing or presenting at a Technical Design Authority or equivalent architecture governance forum, securing approval for complex designs and engaging senior client stakeholders.
- The communication and leadership capability to guide and mentor other architects and engineers.
These will help you succeed
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional.
- Databricks Data Engineer Professional or Architect-level certification.
- Experience working in regulated or public-sector environments, particularly national data or research programmes.
- Experience defining enterprise or reference architecture, supported by a framework such as TOGAF.
- A forward-looking, proactive approach to identifying architectural risks and communicating clear recommendations.
We're excited to meet people who share our mission and can make an impact in a variety of ways. Don't hesitate to apply if you meet the essential requirements. Your transferable experience and unique skills may bring valuable perspectives to this role.
What we offer
- The opportunity to lead architecture for a high-profile, national-scale data programme.
- The ability to shape enterprise AWS architecture strategy and influence a growing architecture practice.
- A collaborative and inclusive team environment, with opportunities to mentor colleagues.
- Competitive Cognizant benefits, including pension, private healthcare and wellbeing support.
