About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and supporting scalable enterprise applications that drive critical business operations. You will be a valued member of the application development team and work collaboratively with architects, business stakeholders, DevOps teams, and fellow engineers to deliver innovative, high-quality technology solutions.
In This Role, You Will
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
- Build, enhance, and support RESTful APIs and microservices-based solutions.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries to ensure application performance, scalability, and data integrity.
- Create and maintain Unix shell scripts supporting automation, deployments, and operational processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment to deliver business-critical applications.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while ensuring system stability and reliability.
- Support application modernization initiatives and drive technical excellence across the development lifecycle.
Work Model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2 days per week in the client office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Compensation
The annual salary for this position is expected to be between CAD $60,000 and CAD $93,500 depending on experience, qualifications, skills, and other business-related factors.
In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the terms of the applicable plan and company policies.
What You Need to Have to Be Considered
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of experience in enterprise Java application development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java 17 or higher.
- Proven expertise with Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
- Experience developing and supporting RESTful APIs.
- Strong SQL and database development skills, including query optimization.
- Experience working in Unix/Linux environments and developing shell scripts.
- Experience working within Agile software development methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
These Will Help You Stand Out
- Experience working within banking or financial services environments, particularly large enterprise organizations.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.
- Experience with cloud-native development and containerization technologies.
- Exposure to application performance tuning and enterprise-scale deployments.
- Familiarity with software security standards and secure coding practices.
