Job Title: Senior Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

About the Role
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $99,000 to $115,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
In this role, you will
Design, implement, and continuously improve Azure cloud infrastructure services including virtual machines, storage solutions, networking components, container platforms, and platform services to support business-critical applications.
Develop scalable, secure, and highly available cloud architectures that align with enterprise standards, operational requirements, and business objectives.
Engineer, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Bicep, Terraform, or OpenTofu to standardize cloud provisioning and configuration management.
Build and automate cloud operations through scripting and tooling, leveraging PowerShell and other automation frameworks to improve deployment velocity and operational efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues across Azure networking, compute, storage, identity, security, and hybrid connectivity platforms while ensuring minimal business disruption.
Design, implement, and support hybrid cloud networking solutions, including VPNs, ExpressRoute connectivity, secure access controls, and integration with on-premises environments.
Develop and maintain enterprise observability platforms, including monitoring, logging, alerting, performance analytics, and operational dashboards to enhance service reliability and incident response.
Collaborate with platform engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and application development teams to establish cloud engineering standards, governance frameworks, and operational best practices.
Evaluate and implement Azure-native capabilities and emerging cloud technologies that improve application performance, resilience, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Apply and enforce cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, network segmentation, security monitoring, compliance controls, vulnerability management, and data protection requirements.
Optimize cloud infrastructure costs by monitoring consumption, analyzing utilization patterns, rightsizing resources, and recommending architectural improvements for financial efficiency.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers by providing technical guidance, conducting design reviews, sharing best practices, and fostering continuous learning across the cloud engineering organization.
What you’ll need to succeed (required skills)
10+ years of IT infrastructure and cloud engineering experience.
10+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience.
Strong expertise in Azure Compute, Networking, Storage, Identity, Security, and Platform Services.
5+ years of Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, Bicep, or OpenTofu.
3+ years of PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
Deep understanding of hybrid cloud architectures and cloud networking concepts.
Experience with cloud monitoring, observability, and operational support.
Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, and security domains.
Experience implementing cloud security and governance best practices.
Excellent communication, documentation, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills
Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Security Engineer, or equivalent).
Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud transformation initiatives.
Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks.
Knowledge of cloud cost optimization and FinOps principles.
Experience mentoring technical teams and driving engineering excellence.
