Job Summary
Serve as a senior infrastructure architect specializing in mainframe and database application design for telecom environments focusing on IMS IDMS and mainframe DB2 application DBA responsibilities. Apply twelve to fourteen years of experience to shape resilient secure and scalable hybrid solutions that optimize critical telecom platforms and enhance customer reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design end to end infrastructure architectures for telecom applications that rely on IMS application databases ensuring high performance resilience and predictable response times for critical business services.
- Develop comprehensive application database strategies across IMS IDMS and mainframe DB2 platforms that align with enterprise standards while optimizing cost capacity and long term maintainability.
- Coordinate with application owners and business analysts to translate telecom product requirements into robust infrastructure and database deployment patterns that support future growth.
- Optimize IMS application database schemas access paths and buffer configurations to improve throughput reduce contention and maintain consistent service levels for customer facing systems.
- Configure and fine tune IDMS application database environments to support complex transaction processing while maintaining data integrity recoverability and stable performance under peak loads.
- Administer mainframe DB2 application databases by managing objects tuning SQL and guiding application teams on efficient query design to minimize resource consumption.
- Implement standardized backup recovery and data protection practices across IMS IDMS and mainframe DB2 application databases to support strict recovery point and recovery time objectives.
- Collaborate with mainframe system teams storage specialists and middleware engineers to validate capacity assumptions identify bottlenecks and support smooth integration in a hybrid work model.
- Review and refine infrastructure designs and change requests for telecom initiatives to ensure compliance with security controls regulatory expectations and internal architecture guidelines.

- Monitor key performance indicators across IMS IDMS and mainframe DB2 environments and recommend continuous improvements that reduce incidents and enhance customer experience.
- Engage in incident and problem management activities by performing deep root cause analysis on database related issues and proposing structural fixes that prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate with information security teams to apply hardening practices enforce access controls and align database configurations with organizational security policies.
- Participate in capacity planning and forecasting exercises that model telecom traffic patterns and project storage processing and licensing needs for the database landscape.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to peers on best practices for application database design and infrastructure utilization without assuming formal people leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate twelve to fourteen years of experience in infrastructure architecture with a strong focus on IMS application database administration in large enterprise environments.
- Show proven hands on experience as an IDMS application database administrator supporting complex transactional and batch solutions in the telecom domain.
- Exhibit deep practical knowledge of mainframe DB2 application database administration including object design performance tuning and deployment automation.
- Apply solid understanding of telecom industry processes standards and regulatory expectations to ensure that infrastructure designs support reliable network and customer operations.
- Utilize advanced skills in performance analysis capacity planning and workload management for mainframe database environments to maintain stable day shift operations.
- Display strong communication and collaboration capabilities to work effectively in a hybrid model with distributed teams business stakeholders and cross functional technology partners.
- Employ structured problem solving methods and change management discipline to support highly available telecom services and minimize unplanned downtime.
