We are seeking an experienced AWS PostgreSQL Database Architect to lead the design, implementation, optimisation, and modernisation of enterprise database platforms on AWS. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, cloud migration strategies, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, and database security.
The Architect will collaborate with application teams, cloud architects, DevOps engineers, and business stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, secure, and highly available database solutions supporting mission-critical business workloads, particularly within financial services and lending domains.
In this role, you will:
· Design and implement cloud-native database architectures using PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL to support secure, scalable, and high-performance enterprise applications.
· Develop architecture blueprints, reference implementations, and detailed technical documentation covering system components, integration patterns, data flows, and non-functional requirements.
· Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to translate business requirements into solution architectures aligned with enterprise standards.
· Define and validate logical and physical data models, ensuring data integrity, reliability, scalability, and efficient reporting capabilities.
· Review application and database designs to optimise the use of PostgreSQL features, including indexing, partitioning, replication, and connection management.
· Architect highly available and disaster recovery solutions leveraging AWS-native services and best practices to meet business continuity requirements.

What you need to have to be considered
· 10+ years of experience in database architecture, database engineering, or enterprise data platform design.
· 5+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in large-scale production environments.
· Strong expertise with Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
· Proven experience designing and implementing cloud-native database solutions on AWS.
· Deep understanding of PostgreSQL performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimisation, partitioning, replication, backup and recovery.
· Experience with AWS services including EC2, RDS, Aurora, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, S3, Route 53, and AWS Backup.
· Strong knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, failover architectures, and business continuity planning.
· Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
· Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated infrastructure deployment.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $ 81337 to $ 141500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
