Oracle Database Engineering Lead
About the role
As an Oracle Database Engineering Lead, you will make an impact by leading the architecture, engineering, performance, security, and reliability of Oracle database platforms that support critical pharmaceutical research and scientific applications. You will be a valued member of the technology and research enablement team and work collaboratively with application architects, product owners, scientists, data engineers, cybersecurity teams, infrastructure teams, and delivery stakeholders to ensure data platforms are scalable, secure, and highly available.
In this role, you will:
- Lead Oracle database architecture, engineering, modernization, upgrades, migrations, and operational excellence initiatives across business-critical research platforms.
- Design and optimize logical and physical data models, database schemas, indexing strategies, partitioning approaches, and performance standards.
- Drive database performance, availability, resiliency, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities to support scientific and operational workloads.
- Establish database security, governance, and compliance controls, including access management, encryption, auditing, and data protection standards.
- Partner with technical and business stakeholders to deliver scalable data solutions, mentor engineering teams, and promote database engineering best practices.

What you need to have to be considered
- 15+ years of experience in database engineering, including significant expertise in Oracle database architecture, administration, development, and production support.
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL and PL/SQL development, performance tuning, query optimization, database design, and troubleshooting.
- Experience implementing high-availability, backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and database resilience strategies in enterprise environments.
- Expertise with Oracle technologies such as RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, Enterprise Manager, and related database management tools.
- Experience working in Linux/Unix environments, scripting, source control platforms, and automated database deployment processes.
- Proven ability to lead database modernization, migration, upgrade, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
These will help you stand out
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, laboratory informatics, or scientific research environments.
- Knowledge of research platforms such as ELN, LIMS, SDMS, bioinformatics systems, scientific analytics, or laboratory data management solutions.
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or other cloud-based database platforms.
- Familiarity with FAIR data principles, data lineage, metadata management, and scientific data governance practices.
- Oracle, cloud, architecture, or ITIL certifications.
- Experience leading global teams and influencing architecture, engineering, and operational strategy initiatives.
