Senior AI Engineer – Claims Summarization & Agentic AI
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy Agentic AI solutions for insurance claims processing. The ideal candidate will build intelligent Claims Summarization Agents leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) from Microsoft (Azure OpenAI), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), and other leading AI providers.
This role requires deep expertise in Azure, Databricks, Generative AI, Agent Frameworks, RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation), and enterprise-scale data engineering. The candidate will work closely with Claims SMEs, Product Owners, Data Architects, and Engineering teams to transform claims operations through AI-driven automation and insights
Key Responsibilities
Agentic AI Solution Development
- Design and build Claims Summarization Agents capable of analyzing structured and unstructured claims data.
- Develop multi-agent workflows for claim intake, claim history review, adjuster notes analysis, fraud indicators, and settlement recommendations.
- Build intelligent orchestration using frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, LangChain, CrewAI, or Databricks Mosaic AI Agent Framework.
- Implement Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) workflows for critical claims decision support.
LLM Engineering
- Integrate and optimize enterprise LLMs including:
- Azure OpenAI (GPT-4o, GPT-5*)
- Anthropic Claude
- Google Gemini
- Open-source models where appropriate
- Perform prompt engineering, evaluation, guardrail implementation, and model tuning.
- Design confidence scoring and hallucination mitigation mechanisms.
RAG & Knowledge Engineering
- Build Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions using:
- Databricks Vector Search
- Azure AI Search
- Embedding models
- Knowledge Graphs
- Implement document chunking, indexing, metadata enrichment, and retrieval optimization.
- Develop solutions for claims documents including:
- FNOL reports
- Adjuster notes
- Medical reports
- Legal correspondence
- Claim history documents.
Databricks & Azure Development
- Develop scalable AI pipelines using:
- Azure Databricks
- Databricks Mosaic AI
- MLflow
- Unity Catalog
- Delta Lake
- LakeFlow Pipelines
- Build PySpark-based data processing frameworks for claims data.
- Create end-to-end AI lifecycle management including deployment, monitoring, and governance.
AI Governance & Observability
- Implement Responsible AI principles, security guardrails, and compliance controls.
- Establish observability using MLflow, tracing, prompt monitoring, evaluation frameworks, and model performance tracking.
- Ensure privacy, explainability, auditability, and regulatory compliance for insurance use cases.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 8+ years of software engineering, data engineering, or AI engineering experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Generative AI and LLM solutions.
- Proven experience implementing enterprise-scale AI agents and RAG-based applications.
- Insurance domain experience, particularly Claims, Policy Administration, or Underwriting, is highly preferred.

The annual salary for this position is between $110,000 - $130,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
