About the role
As a Test Support Engineer – Backup Exec, you will make an impact by helping customers resolve technical issues across Backup Exec products and environments. You will support customers using on-premises, virtualized, and cloud infrastructures, while working closely with internal teams to drive timely issue resolution and continuous service improvement.
You will be a valued member of the technical support organization and work collaboratively with customers, engineering teams, product specialists, and internal stakeholders.
In this role, you will:
- Provide technical support for Backup Exec solutions across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud environments.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve customer issues while meeting established SLA, productivity, and customer support goals.
- Answer technical questions, identify appropriate workarounds or solutions, and support customers through remote assistance and live interactions.
- Document case details, analyze system issues, and contribute to knowledge base articles and support documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, development, sales, and product stakeholders, to enable timely case resolution and improve customer outcomes.
Work model
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position with a combination of remote work and collaboration from a Cognizant or client location as required.

What you must have to be considered
- 3+ years of experience in technical support, system administration, infrastructure support, or a related technical support role.
- Working knowledge of operating systems, networking technologies, and storage platforms.
- Experience troubleshooting enterprise infrastructure issues and supporting customers in technical environments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, virtualization technologies, and distributed system environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex technical issues into clear actions.
- Customer-focused communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics clearly and manage customer expectations with empathy.
- Business-level Japanese communication skills; JLPT N1 or equivalent proficiency is preferred.
- Professional English reading and writing capability, with the ability to participate in meetings, review technical documentation, and correspond by email.
These will help you succeed
- Experience supporting backup, recovery, or data protection technologies.
- Experience working in customer-facing technical support environments with defined SLA commitments.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, Network+, Server+, RHCSA, RHCE, CCNA, CCNP, or cloud certifications from AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience contributing to knowledge management, technical documentation, or support process improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including sales, engineering, development, and support teams.
- A positive, team-oriented mindset with curiosity, flexibility, and a commitment to delivering customer value.
