Release Train Engineer (RTE)
Background
The organization delivers enterprise business solutions and operates using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to coordinate multiple Agile teams through Agile Release Trains (ARTs). A dedicated Release Train Engineer is needed to facilitate ART execution, ensure alignment with enterprise Agile standards, and drive effective communication, transparency, and continuous improvement across teams and stakeholders.
Objective
Engage an experienced Release Train Engineer (RTE) to optimize value delivery across ARTs, facilitate SAFe ceremonies, coach teams and leaders, manage risks and dependencies, and support program governance through effective reporting and stakeholder coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- ART Facilitation: Lead PI Planning, ART Syncs, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops.
- Program Execution: Monitor ART progress, PI objectives, milestones, and delivery commitments using Agile tools and metrics.
- Risk & Dependency Management: Identify, track, and resolve cross-team risks, dependencies, and impediments.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Ensure timely communication of program progress, metrics, risks, and decisions across leadership and governance functions.
- Program Management Support: Consolidate ART status reporting, support resource and capacity planning, and highlight key delivery risks.
- Coaching & Continuous Improvement: Mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and teams on SAFe and Lean-Agile practices while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- PM Standardization: Develop reusable project management templates, frameworks, and best practices to improve operational efficiency.
Deliverables
- Successfully facilitated PI Planning and ART events with documented objectives and commitments.
- Regular ART health, delivery, and flow metrics reporting.
- Defined governance and reporting processes with documented communication cadence.
- Maintained risk, dependency, and impediment register.
- Continuous improvement backlog with tracked implementation progress.
- Standardized project management templates and PM toolkit.
- Documented PM best practices and operational frameworks.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Agile delivery, program management, or project leadership experience.
- 2+ years as an RTE or in a similar SAFe leadership role.
- SAFe RTE, SPC, or SAFe Agilist certification.
- Hands-on experience facilitating PI Planning and ART-level events.
- Proven success managing cross-team dependencies, risks, and impediments.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and executive presentation skills.
- Experience with Agile delivery tools such as Jira, Jira Align, Azure DevOps, or similar.
- Strong coaching, servant leadership, and change management capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to establish PM standards, templates, and best-practice frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with enterprise Agile Centers of Excellence (CoE/LACE).
- Background in IT program management and portfolio reporting.
- Experience within large, complex enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of Agile budgeting, capacity planning, and resource management.
Compensation: - $100,000 to $130,000 + COLA and this position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans. Application will be accepted by 9/8/2026
