About the role
As an AI Engineering Operations Lead, you will make an impact by enabling software engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently through operational excellence, AI-powered automation, and engineering governance. You will be a valued member of the Software Development Engineering organization and work collaboratively with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects, Technical Leads, Scrum Masters, Agile PMO teams, and business stakeholders.
In this role, you will:
- Own engineering operational execution across software development teams to improve delivery predictability and engineering effectiveness.
- Manage Azure DevOps backlogs, work items, traceability, documentation, and governance processes that support software delivery and SDLC compliance.
- Partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects, and Technical Leads to ensure requirements, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and supporting artifacts are development-ready.
- Design and implement AI-driven automation solutions that streamline engineering workflows, improve data quality, and reduce administrative effort.
- Maintain engineering metrics, backlog health, delivery data, and operational controls that support governance, planning, and portfolio oversight.
Work model
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring periodic attendance in a Cognizant or client office in New York or New Jersey.
Remote is also an option.

What you need to have to be considered
- 10+ years of experience in software delivery, engineering operations, application lifecycle management, technical program management, or related functions.
- Deep hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, including Boards, Backlogs, Work Item Management, Queries, Dashboards, and workflow administration.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, SDLC processes, release management, and software engineering best practices.
- Experience managing backlog governance, requirements readiness, dependency management, traceability, and engineering operational processes.
- Proven experience implementing workflow automation solutions that improve engineering productivity and reduce manual effort.
- Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Architects, Business Analysts, Developers, QA teams, and enterprise stakeholders.
- Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools, AI agents, and Generative AI platforms supporting engineering operations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
These will help you stand out
- Experience leveraging Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar AI platforms to improve engineering efficiency.
- Experience with Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Logic Apps, or other workflow automation technologies.
- Knowledge of Power BI and engineering operational reporting and analytics.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and enterprise collaboration platforms.
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise technology organizations with strong governance, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Familiarity with SQL, reporting tools, and data analysis techniques for engineering insights and operational decision-making.
- Experience driving AI-enabled engineering transformation initiatives and operational excellence programs.

Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until August 3rd, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $110,500 - $130,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
