Azure Integration Architect

The Azure Integration Architect is a senior technical expert responsible for designing and governing enterprise-grade integration solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform. This role defines the architectural blueprint for connecting applications, data, and services across cloud and hybrid environments, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
· Design end-to-end integration architectures using Azure Integration Services including API Management, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, and Azure Data Factory
· Define integration patterns such as event-driven, pub/sub, request-reply, choreography, and orchestration
· Develop and maintain architecture reference models, solution blueprints, and technical standards
· Evaluate build vs. buy decisions and recommend the right tools and platforms for each integration scenario
· Ensure architectures are designed for high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery
Solution Development & Oversight
· Provide architectural guidance and technical oversight to development teams throughout the delivery lifecycle
· Conduct architecture and design reviews, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices
· Define API design guidelines including versioning, security policies, throttling, and documentation standards
· Lead proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and pilots to validate architectural decisions
Governance & Standards
· Establish and maintain the integration governance framework including naming conventions, error handling strategies, logging, and monitoring standards
· Define and enforce security standards including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, managed identities, and role-based access control (RBAC)
· Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) in integration flows
· Own the integration platform roadmap and lifecycle management
Stakeholder Engagement
· Collaborate with enterprise architects, solution architects, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs
· Present architectural proposals and trade-off analyses to senior leadership and technical review boards
· Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all Azure integration-related topics across the organization
· Support pre-sales, RFPs, or vendor evaluations where integration expertise is required
Operations & Continuous Improvement
· Define observability strategies including logging, tracing, alerting, and dashboarding using Azure Monitor and Application Insights
· Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend optimization strategies
· Stay current with Microsoft Azure roadmap and emerging integration trends, incorporating relevant innovations
Required Qualifications
· 8+ years of experience in software or enterprise architecture with a focus on integration
· Deep expertise in Azure Integration Services: Logic Apps (Standard & Consumption), Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, Azure Event Hubs, and Azure Data Factory
· Strong knowledge of integration and messaging patterns: REST, SOAP, GraphQL, EDI, gRPC, pub/sub, event streaming
· Experience with hybrid integration scenarios using On-Premises Data Gateway or Azure Arc
· Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Bicep or Terraform
· Solid understanding of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline design for integration workloads
· Experience with identity and security frameworks: Azure Active Directory, Managed Identities, OAuth 2.0, JWT
· Familiarity with microservices architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), and API-first approaches
Preferred Qualifications
· Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
· Microsoft Certified: Azure Integration Services (AZ-204 or relevant specialty)
· Experience with complementary platforms such as MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or Azure API Center
· Knowledge of SAP, Dynamics 365, Salesforce, or other enterprise application integration
· Exposure to real-time streaming with Apache Kafka or Azure Event Hubs
· Experience in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or public sector
