About the role
As a Medical Coding Quality Auditor, you will play a critical role in ensuring coding accuracy, compliance, and quality across healthcare records. You will collaborate with coding professionals and physicians to support accurate clinical documentation, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while maintaining high quality and productivity standards in a remote work environment.
In this role, you will:
Review medical documentation to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes.
Communicate with physicians and other healthcare providers to obtain or clarify diagnoses and procedures through the coding query process.
Assign accurate codes using electronic encoder applications in accordance with company policies, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Perform peer reviews and quality audits of Health Information Management coding auditors and coders.
Prepare and complete reports, audit findings, and other deliverables as requested.
Monitor coding quality and ensure adherence to compliance standards and best practices.
Maintain a minimum coding accuracy rate of 98% while meeting established productivity and performance expectations.
Consistently meet productivity goals and turnaround time requirements.

What you need to have to be considered
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or other relevant coding certification.
Experience reviewing medical documentation and assigning diagnosis and procedure codes.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
Experience utilizing electronic encoder applications and coding software.
Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance requirements.
Ability to effectively communicate with physicians to resolve documentation and coding questions.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Proven ability to maintain high accuracy and productivity standards.
These will help you stand out
Previous experience in coding quality auditing or peer review activities.
Experience working within Health Information Management (HIM) departments.
Knowledge of revenue cycle management and reimbursement methodologies.
Experience developing or presenting coding education and feedback.
Strong reporting and data analysis skills.
Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until October 25, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $63,000-$71,000 depending on experience and other
qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and
subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
