We are looking for a Business Analyst who can work independently on initiatives within the Energy, Water & Utilities sector. The role involves leading requirements activities, engaging directly with stakeholders, and supporting delivery across digital, operational, asset, customer, environmental and regulatory transformation programmes.
You will play a key role in translating business needs into clear, actionable requirements across customer, asset, market, and enterprise platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Analysis & Requirements
· Lead end to end requirements gathering across business and technology teams.
· Produce detailed business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
· Perform gap analysis across current state and future state processes.
2. Process Mapping & Optimisation
· Map and analyse Energy, Water and Utilities processes, including customer onboarding, meter-to-cash, billing, leakage management, clean-water distribution, wastewater treatment, sewerage and storm-overflow management, outage and incident response, developer services, field operations, asset maintenance and capital delivery.
· Identify process inefficiencies, control gaps, and regulatory risks.
· Support design of future state processes aligned to transformation goals.
3. Energy, Water & Utilities Domain Expertise
· Apply knowledge of UK energy, water and wastewater operating models, including retail and wholesale operations, network management, asset-intensive delivery, customer services and environmental obligations.
· Support compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, market rules and data standards, including Ofwat price controls, PR24/AMP8 delivery commitments, Outcome Delivery Incentives, Annual Performance Reporting and regulatory assurance.
· Analyse water-sector performance areas such as leakage, per-capita consumption, supply interruptions, sewer flooding, pollution incidents, water quality, smart metering, C-MeX/D-MeX and asset resilience.
· Work with operational and engineering stakeholders across clean water, wastewater, catchment management, treatment, networks, field services and capital programmes.
· Translate regulatory and environmental commitments into traceable business requirements, process controls, data needs, reporting rules and test scenarios.
4. Data, Systems & Delivery
· Work with data teams on reporting, MI, and operational insights.
· Collaborate with product, engineering, and vendor teams on system changes.
· Support data analysis and reporting across asset, customer, meter, telemetry, work-order, environmental and regulatory datasets.
· Collaborate on changes involving billing and CRM, enterprise asset management, GIS, mobile workforce management, SCADA/telemetry, laboratory, regulatory reporting and programme-management platforms.
· Help define data-quality and governance requirements for asset hierarchies, meter records, customer data, work orders and regulatory evidence.
· Support UAT planning, execution, and defect triage.
5. Stakeholder Management
· Facilitate workshops and working sessions with business SMEs and leadership.
· Act as a bridge between business users and technical teams.
· Provide clear status updates, risks, and recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
· 3–7 years’ Business Analysis experience.
· Experience working independently with senior stakeholders.
· Strong skills in requirements documentation, process modelling, and analysis.
· Experience in Energy & Utilities, including water and wastewater, or another asset-intensive regulated industry.
Preferred
· Experience with Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban).
· Familiarity with core utilities systems (billing, CRM, asset or work management).
· Professional BA certification (CBAP, Agile BA) desirable.
· Experience with UK water companies or water-sector programmes covering clean water, wastewater, customer operations, asset management, capital delivery or regulatory reporting.
· Understanding of Ofwat regulation, PR24/AMP8, Outcome Delivery Incentives, regulatory assurance and environmental performance commitments.
· Familiarity with water-sector platforms and data domains such as billing/CRM, EAM, GIS, field-service management, telemetry/SCADA, smart metering and regulatory reporting.
· Knowledge of leakage reduction, pollution prevention, sewer flooding, water quality, demand management, asset health and resilience is desirable.
